/trv/ is a slow board, you don't need to bump more than once a day -- it's OK if your thread is not on the front page, we look several pages deep here. You can do that. too, looking for threads on your topic.

Questions are welcomed, as are threads sharing experiences or generally discussing travel. For very general questions, you can get answers faster at other sites. Google is your friend. Start there, then come back here for specific questions. Some good links for basic info, and a few Pet Peeves of the board, are included within this thread.

"The worst moment in 1-year backpacking around the world was when we crossed the border from Thailand to Cambodia. It was our second trip to Cambodia and after 7 hours on the bus we refused to pay a bribe to the Cambodian Immigration Officer. We knew he was charging everybody more than the correct amount of money and we said “No”. As a consequence they held our passport for 1 hour, we couldn’t leave the border or go back to Thailand. We felt threatened and unsafe. In the end, after a lot of discussions, they let us go.

It’s not about money. It is about principles, about right and wrong. We had money to pay the bribe but we refuse to do it"

Cheap food

No.2014793 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I will soon be going on a vagrant/backpacking trip around the northeast US on a minimal budget, my first time doing so. I want to minimize what I spend on food. What are some good common grocery store, gas station, or even fast food items that will give me the most calories per dollar? I've thought about McDonald's McChickens and 20-piece nuggets, and peanut butter. This is preferably without cooking, but I can bring a compact stove if it is really the best way to go.

>UK finally legalise travel on May 17
>find out i have to pay £120 ($160) per person to some EvilPharma company for some bullshit test
>cant use NHS tests
>ok i will front the cost
>book holiday in Portugal
>find out I also have to pay another 100 euro ($100) in Portugal and locate a testing facility in the city
>not doing all that for less than a week away
>cancel the holiday

I have been waiting to travel for literally years all because of a largely harmless flu.

I am so depressed that my plans are being thwarted by pointless redtape despite '''legalisation''' of travel by Boris -- which OBVIOUSLY excludes anyone who isn't loaded.

Pre covid you could go anywhere within Europe for £100-200 per person in a decent-ish hotel with a pool. Now, that cost is an extra £200 per person.

Kyrgyzstan Motorcycle Trip

No.2009229 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey /trv/

I have been living in Kyrgyzstan for 4 months. In my time here I have learned to speak decent conversational Russian, basic Kyrgyz, seen a lot of the country.

I've bought a 250cc Honda dirt bike that I'm planning to do a big 6 werk trip around the country on this summer. Planning to spend time around Song Kul, Jalal Abad oblast, and the Pamir Alay range.

Kyrgyzstan is completely open right now, anyone can enter with just a PCR test and there's no quarantine whatsoever. It's a great place to travel, and the vast majority of the country is virtually untouched by international tourism. I can't count the number of times I've been invited in my locals for tea and meals, or even to stay the night.

Does anyone want to join me? I would be happy to help you purchase or rent a suitable bike, and I can help you with just about anything you need here. Planning on going from early July to mid August.

I'll post some pictures I've taken here so far. Let me know if you're interested and we can talk

We don't fucking know. The Olympics are this July and no tourists are allowed in. Do the math.

WE DON'T KNOW. Prime minister Suga doesn't know. The CDC doesn't know. The blind is leading the blind.

Copypasta FAQ:
>When will China open to ESL teachers again?
First step is getting Vaxxed.
>Ok, how much can I expect to earn?
Really depends on the city but the minimum is $2000/mo for 20 hours of work, and at least double that in major tier 1 cities.
>Is Shanghai a great place to start?
Not really, Shanghai really isn't representative of China due to its outside influence and huge number of foreigners.

Install Didi Da Chi for Uber-like service.
